Course Content:

This course aims to provide teachers with resources to identify specific gaps in learning as a result of the recent school closures. Ideas and approaches to help schools ensure pupils are back on track in English and mathematics will form the full day of training with remote learning and in-school gap tasks.

Initial Virtual Meeting (1 hour)  – 17th September

An explanation of the cpd structure and introduction to the expanded Back on Track documentation and how to use it to identify key gaps in learning from the previous year.

Active Research Day – 30th September

Potential barriers and broader implications to effective learning from the latest research.

Maths
• Number – fluency, number structures, being able to reason with comparing and ordering
• Place Value – properties of place value including positional and multiplicative properties
• Calculations – strengthening mental and written strategies
English
• Spoken Language –active listening, fluency in speaking, expressive language, dialogic teaching and discussion
• Reading – reigniting an enjoyment of reading; questioning and dialogic talk; engaging texts; inference
• Writing – sentence structure, grammar and composition; modelling and supporting writing

Key Outcomes

❖ Staff will have a clear understanding of where different groups of pupils are in their learning
❖ Practical ways of addressing gaps in learning and ways of developing key knowledge in English and maths

Bookings for this course require the email addresses for those participating so that they can receive course documents and an online invitation to join the meeting on Microsoft Teams.

A link to the documents for the initial meeting will be sent to the email addresses on the 16th September, in readiness for the initial meetings on 17th September 2020. Once this link has been sent, schools will have made a commitment to the course and cancellations will be not be possible. The full course fee per school per course of £160 Click4 Members (£200 for non-Click 4 Members) will be chargeable.

Invoices will be sent after the initial online meeting session.

Course delegates will receive a link to the required documents the day before the full session of each course, with the expectation that these will be downloaded prior to the course.

It is the school’s responsibility to ensure that delegates’ IT systems / laptops are set up to use Microsoft Teams and to have access to the materials e.g. on a local drive.

Click4Teaching cannot be held responsible for any technical difficulties arising from IT issues.

It will be possible for delegates to access this course from school or home, in accordance with the school’s policy on home working, however, some tasks may include small group working with pupils. In the event of a delegate working from home, it is anticipated that they will plan for working with pupils at a later date.
